Reorganized in 2010 by Mayor Balzotti to ensure Brockton youth have a voice in the city, the goal of the council is to provide teens with a forum to bring issues from their peers to the Mayor’s attention and work to create solutions to the problems youth face as well as to focus and follow up on the solutions developed during the annual Mayor’s Youth Summit.

At the 2010 Summit, participants decided that before anything could be done by youth and for youth, they had to feel safe. Addressing violence is the Brockton Youth Council’s focus for the year.  The group launched an Anti-Violence Campaign in September of that year.
